Hey Mark - I may just be able to do that 5k run with you. I am really glad to hear you are going to be doing it. I have another 5k race that I am doing that day close to home, but it is an evening race. I need to check some stuff out and make sure.... but it is a good possibility.

First I would like to say thank you to Tim and the rest of my motivational team. This is a hard road and I definately need support.
Saturday afternoon I completed my fastest 2mi run/walk and I am definately proud of myself.
The problem is I think I may be destroying my knee(s). I've got a sharp stabbing pain just under the knee cap. I enjoy running and I don't want to lose my momentum in improving my pace. I do think that I will have to spend some time on a bike or something until I lose a little more weight. I guess cross training also helps with the weight loss. I'm just looking forward to another 5K. I gotta get Tim out there to run with me. I enjoyed the Mayor's Challenge in Alpharetta last year and wouldn't mind running again.

I completed the second day of the second week of the couch to 5K last night and although I had my wind my body was aching something AWFUL. I guess the hydropower class before I run didn't help.

Can somone PLEASE tell me why you gain weight the morning after a workout? The past three times I've worked out and weighed myself the morning after I weight more than I did the mornign before...That's insane.
Really report? This could have a negative impact on the posting user. YesNo
My graph over the past couple of days looks like man in a lawn chair. I don't like that I gained a pound but atleast its ONLY 1 pound and not like 4. I'm still at least 10 pounds lighter today than I was on January 1.

One more pound to go to hit the 290 mark. Watching the biggest loser is oddly motivational. Those people post pretty significant losses in a week's time which could be discouraging because of the numbers but it's encouraging because of their success. One thing that I keep in mind is that they are sequestered and all they do is train.

Went walking Tuesday evening, found out that my son's Wii counts for excercise and played that last night for about 20 minutes...woke up this morning at 292...took care of a few things then I was 291.5...going back to the gym tonight...the pool opens back up Friday and I will be getting into the waterFit class...Life is good!

296...Yeah me...and I haven't even been excercising yet...after recent events I think I am going to spend a few days on the treadmill walking so that I don't over do it before I start running again. I've got to work some weights in also.

Didn't take long. I weighed myself this morning and I was 298.5. I'm really afraid of where I was and I know that I don't want to go back there. I was ALWAYS sleepy even after waking up in the morning. My one knee that I injured decades before was bothering me and I was just plain uncomfortable in my own skin.

Hello EVERYBODY!!!
Well it's 2008 and I am worse off than i was in 2007...The last time I got an actual reading from my scale it registered 299.5...I don't think it registers fat people beyond that point...I'm FAT and I know it...I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired...I'm not going to be naive and make a promise or resolution that I am not going to keep...Just like I tell my son and my wife(after I've apologized for screwing something up) "Actions speak louder than words. I will record my weight once it gets down to a "recordable" level.

I don't really know how to feel right now. I'm pretty much holding steady where I am which means that I'm doing a decent job with my diet. I guess I may need to start cutting back my calories now. I plan on restarting the CT5K again tonight. I also got my son a good pair of running shows so now i can take him with me and the really exciting part is that it will be road running. I saw him on the treadmill and he was like a duck out of water, God bless him.

Tonight I listened to Ullrey's CT5K week one podcast and completed my first day. GOD it felt good running again. The only problem is I don't have any more contact lenses and my run was off just a bit because I wasn't completely focused on my form. I will take care of that so that next time that won't be an issue.
Really report? This could have a negative impact on the posting user. YesNo
I'm not going to get down on myself and look at it as it could have been a lot worse with all of the temptation floating around. I will reset my goal and take another run at it.

Weekends are BRUTAL especially when there is cake! We celebrated the 1st anniversary of my sons birth and there was food and goodies everywhere. I won't break my arm patting myself on the back but I believe that I refrained pretty well. I only added 1.5lbs versus my usual 2 lbs which is what I typically add after a weekend. My dinner Saturday night consisted of fruit. The bad part is all the junk I had prior to.

way to go Mark on the 3 lbs. Get that bag in the car and lets get going. :)
That is cool that your boy wants to start running, that would be great for both of you. I am hoping that one day one of my kids will want to start running with me......

I was just about to post my weight from this morning. 293.5. This is a 3 lb loss since Monday morning. I'm still working my baby steps and now that my schedule is starting to slow down just a bit I'm going start tossing my bag in the back of the car. Even better my 9 year old wants to start running, if we are ever able to get his homework done at a reasonable time we will start walking/jogging in the evenings.
Really report? This could have a negative impact on the posting user. YesNo
I've decided no more eating after 9pm unless it's a fruit or vegetable. I'm tired of being fat. I completed baby step .5 and as of this morning I lost a whole 1/2 pound. It's not much but it's a start.
Really report? This could have a negative impact on the posting user. YesNo
Although I know it hasn't been an official full week. I did reach a baby step of sorts...that's to stop the gaining. This week by watching what I eat and not eating things that weren't to detrimental I haven't gained anything. So I guess this week I have to hit baby step one HARD!!! I know that I can stop the gaining now it's time to start the losing with my diet only.

I've been out of the game for a while and looking at my weight it SHOWS. My 3rd anniversary is coming up and I am reminded of the promise I made my wife on our wedding day to continue to work on my weight and slim down so that I could be the best husband I can be for her. I've failed her in that regard and although I haven't always responded positively to her encouragement she hasn't given up on me so I can't give up on myself. It's time for me to get back in the game and start winning again. I'm going to do the "Baby Steps".
Step 1: Lose SOME weight, anything to get motivated, that's why I logged my weight today so that when I check back in a week I can see progress, hopefully.
Baby Step 2: Set a realistic 2 week goal.
Baby Step 3: Set a realistic Month Goal for weight loss and excercise goals.
Baby Step 4: Set a realistic 6 week weight loss goal and increase excercise goal.

The times shown above are my split and finish times from the Mayor's Challenge 5K race I ran yesterday. I can tell you that running is definately quiet time alone with God. As I ran and really wanted to just throw in the towel I could see my 8 month old child as an adult not suffering to with obesity because he saw his father live a healthy lifestyle. My second split time would have been a lot better if it hadn't been for shin splints holding me back. I took the week off last week for 2 reasons. First, I was fighting a cold and I couldn't handle the mental set back from not doing well. Secondly, I wanted to give myself a break before going out and running a 5K.

Great job Mark. I enjoy reading your feedback. Don't worry about a not feeling right today. We all have our bad days. Today for me, for instance, was just not great either - but I know I have tomorrow to make sure that I get back out there and do what I've set myself up to do.

Today completely sucked. I couldn't find my rythm on the treadmill. I didn't even get a full 20 minutes in and my goal was 25mins. I'm not going to let this get me down. I also think that because I hadn't had nearly as much water as I should, played a part also.

EXCELLENT!! The Triathlon is next month right? :)
Good for you! I should come over there and run it with you. Although I am not so sure how I will feel after running my first 5k, I am running it this Saturday. I am running the www.saratoga5kfunrun.com . I hope I am ready. I know I can do the 3 miles, but this run is a very hilly run. I ran 3 miles this morning and felt really good (after the first 1/2 mile)
So, are you going to run the Peachtree Road Race? I signed up for it and am training towards it. That is what this 5k is for, part of my training to get ready for the Peachtree. I am doing at least one 5k in June as well, and as many others I can find!

Yeah. The gardening was from cutting the grass and digging a trench at the base of the hill in my backyard. Your right. It's tough getting up that early but my day went so much better today. I ran for a solid 20 but I've got to get my time up because I'm training for the mayor's challenge in about 2 weeks.

Good workout today! Even if some was from gardening - that counts too! Good job with getting up and running! It gets a little bit easier each time. I understand, I need to spend more time with my family too.

Mark,
Yea, it ain't easy, but it is worth it. Maybe you should talk you wife into going every night, that way you would have a reason to get up and go yourself each morning. :) Just a thought. :)

Thanks for the comment bro. Man, I've done 19 days straight of 1 mile or more. I use the 1 mile as a "rest" run. I'm going to just do a mile today. I'm going to Baltimore tomorrow. I plan on getting a celebration 6-8 miles in when I get there. Sunday and Monday I am going to rest for sure. I'll be back in the running mood by Tuesday.

Just to clarify, I felt better after running. It still sucked getting up. I kinda had to because I talked my wife into going last night when she wasn't interested in going. I couldn't be a hypocrite and not go this morning.

It's funny. I lost 2 pounds while running this morning. Before my run I was at 282.5 and just before I jumped in the shower I was 280.5. I guess watching the food consumption helps. That and not sitting and watching so much television.

Mark - to answer your question - I am headed to Fleet Feet in Duluth. www.fleetfeetduluth.com (just a couple miles from my office - plus they are putting one just a couple miles from my house in June) I was going to go to The Big Peach Running Store but it was a bit too much of a drive for me.
Great job with the running! Way to stick to it and keep going even though you don't want to!!
How is the diet going? Have you started to track your calories yet? It is a great motivation.... remember it is much easier to cut calories than it is to burn them.

Tonight I ran 20 minutes straight for a total of 1.36 miles. While I was running for some reason I had to fight to find my groove in both my breathing and my run pace. for about 3mins I found a groove where my breathing and pace all came together and everything was right in the world.
At about the 15-17 minute mark my calf's were screaming for me to stop but when I called His name the pain started to discipate and by the time I reached the 20 minute mark I was in no pain. I kept thinking that any moment as I'm walking to the car I am going to cramp up. Here it is nearly 2 hours later and nothing. I'm still good. I'm looking to repeat the duration and pace again on Wednesday and if I feel then like I feel now, I may just keep going just to see how far I can go.
Now that I'm getting the excercise in line I hope that the weight will start to fall off. I've only got 89 more days to drop 60.

Mark,
Just wanted to stop by and say hey....
I also wanted to mentioned that I hadn't seen anything as far as stats for a few days and encourage you to log what you are doing. You know just simply logging something that isn't so great is a motivator in and of itself.

Way to go Mark! You can do it if you put your mind to it! That is the best part, when you do the right thing, you always feel better about it after you do it. I have a hurt foot and am laying off of it a bit to help it heal. It would have been really easy to stay in bed this morning - and I almost did, but I pushed myself and got up and rode the bike instead.
I am proud of you! Good to hear you are going to try to log what you eat.

Tonight after leaving work and really wanting to spend some time with my boys I didn't really feeling like going for a run and I definately didn't want to go to the gym. So I came in kissed my wife and hugged my boys. I spent maybe ten minutes of quality time with everyone came upstairs, changed clothes and hit the streets in the neighborhood. My neighborhood has some pretty good hills especially the one leading up to my house. I ran and definately feel better for it. I get on the scale just about every morning looking for the weight loss. I feel as if I have accomplised something when I see the missing pounds. I know that Tim has it right he suggested logging what I eat. I think next week I will give it a shot for the week.

Mark,
I see you have some frustration. I also noticed that you don't have any data in your Diet column. Just to let you know - I didn't keep track of my calories for the first couple months but just started to about a week ago at www.fitday.com and I was very surprised at what I found. It may help you to do that just for a week to see what you are actually eating. It is highly possible as it was in my case that you are not eating enough. Your metabolism can actually slow down if you don't eat enough for a long enough period of time.
Don't get discouraged! Keep up the exercise and you will do fine.
by the way - I personally don't track my weight every day. It fluctuates too much and can really get you down in a hurry. I do spot check, but it is only official Monday mornings. That way if I am up one day during the week - I just use it for motivation and smile because nobody else has to know :) I then have the drive to get it back in order before Monday mornings weigh in.

I ran my mile in 15 mins and then walked for about 4 and then ran another quarter mile. Total distance of 1.36miles in 21:13. I wake up this morning and I am 1.5 heavier than yesterday. I just don't get it.

Ok...what is the deal with my scale. I weighed myself 3 separate times and got 3 different results. At like 4AM I weight 280, then I relieved myself at 5:30 and then I weighed 271 and finally like 3 minutes, literally, after the 271 I jumped back on and the dang scale said 275. WHAT'S UP WITH THAT?

I have just completed an awesome journey with my family and church family of 40 days of fasting. God throught the fast has allowed me to take a huge motivational leap by giving me the strength to reach a not before reached weight loss goal of 274lbs. All in all, the first 40 days of the year I have dropped 25lbs. If I maintain this pace of 25lbs every 40 days I will reach my ultimate goal within the next 120 with another 47 to go. I think that I will shoot for another 25lbs within the next 60 days. This should put me in good order to meet my goal.
